SUMMARY:Baton Rouge Astronomical Society Meeting
DESCRIPTION:For over four decades the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society has educated countless numbers of citizens in the joys of planetary and deep-sky gazing\, the perils of light pollution and factors to consider when buying a pair of binoculars or a telescope. Over the years BRAS members have constructed their own telescopes and photographic platforms; and imaged comets\, earned observing certificates and discovered asteroids. Anyone interested in learning more about BRAS is invited to attend. Walt Cooney\, the man responsible for the majority of the asteroid discoveries at this site\, will speak. SUMMARY:Uranus Opposition
DESCRIPTION:Uranus is exactly 180 degrees from the Sun\, rising as the Sun is setting. We are now the closest we’ll be to Uranus this year! The light-blue\, high-ice planet (during these years in the constellation Aries) is very compelling. Although rather small due to its distance\, its enormous size and unique color allow one to distinguish it from the stars in the constellation Aries. Jupiter\, Saturn and Neptune will be available also!

Amy Northrop (in her capacity as a JPL Solar System Ambassador) will speak for the second month; October’s topic will be the Psyche mission. [For ages fourteen and older. No admission fee.]
