THE OBJECT’S LOCATION
Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is currently in the constellation Boötes; it will move into Serpens Caput during the morning of the 24th. The comet has been seen from at least two different locations in the region by members of the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society.
THE VIEWING
Please remember, planned comet viewing is always attempted comet viewing until the comet is actually seen. The qualities of a comet apparition (brightness, color, sharpness versus fuzziness) can change drastically over a twenty-four hour period. HRPO personnel will make every valiant attempt to provide a view of the comet’s nucleus and/or its tail.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Current estimates have the comet’s magnitude at about 4.6. This is brighter than the vast majority of comets get, but equipment is required. Handheld binoculars are recommended to assist in finding Lemmon. The waxing crescent Moon, Saturn, the Great Square of Pegasus and visible passes of manmade objects will be available for viewing also.
REGARDING THE BATON ROUGE REGION’S LIGHT POLLUTION
The newly formed Natural Sky Task Force has as its primary goal the acquisition of a Sky Quality Meter reading of 20.0 at HRPO’s back viewing pad.
